About.
A writer, reporter and international development advocate, I focus on issues affecting women, children and the displaced. My recent reporting took me from Kenya to South Africa to cover land grabbing, refugee transitions, life in urban communities, and children affected by AIDS. For this reporting I received the National Mark of Excellence Award for Feature Writing from the Society of Professional Journalists.
I believe in the power of story to transform, both the storyteller and the reader. This passion for storytelling inspired me as I documented client stories for Habitat for Humanity, toured and spoke on behalf of those supported by World Vision's Hope Project in Sub Saharan Africa, and as I reported on refugee transitions in Tennessee. My experience and education in international development and journalism gives a unique perspective as both an expert voice on international development and an experienced witness ready to creatively capture the communities and characters I encounter.
